After a few day sails Hearts of Oak once again took part in the annual Round Walney Island Race on June 15th. Although she trailed in the wake of the other fibreglass flyers she looked elegant and timeless. This was a warm-up for an overnight trip to the Isle of Man on June 19th. The outward trip was described as hard going, straight into the wind, with some heavy seas. Massive wind farms and several oil rigs had to be negotiated before the tired trio moored up in Douglas on Friday morning. The return voyage was described as 'idyllic' with superb conditions. Another journey into the shallows of the Leven estuary will see Hearts of Oak return to her launch site at Canal Foot, Ulverston in mid July to celebrate her 102 years afloat. Here she will be the centre piece of a gala taking place on the foreshore only a few yards from where she will be moored.
