The Albion built in 1906 at Crossfields of
Arnside it is made of pitch pine and oak, The Albion fished out of Morcambe bay and
Conway North Wales, she is a big and powerful boat, originally 40 foot but it has
had 6 foot taken off the stern in a major rebuild some years ago by Peter Marsden
her owner/skipper, she has won both the Liverpool and Conwy nobby races, she is berthed
in Conway Harbour.

AMANDA
Owned by A Martyn of West Kirby, Wirral. Amanda is kept on morrings at West Kirby, Amanda has a fibreglass mast but wooden gaff, boom and bowsprit, her engine is a 4 cylinder Ford.

ARTHUR ALEXANDER LL1
the Arthur
Alexander
is a 33ft vessel designed by Stobie and built by Armour's of Fleetwood in 1902, It
fished out of most of the ports in Morecambe and was used as a fire boat during the
war at the Liverpool docks, the Arthur Alexander was the subject of a Granada tv
documentary as she had sunk in the mud on the River Wyre"Fleetwood" for three years
and was successfully raised By Stan Hurley who sold her to Michael Griffiths who spent three years building her
back in to good condition, she was a winner of the 1988 Liverpool Nobby Race and has
sailed I.O.M. Scotland and Ireland. Owned by Dennis Wright.
BLUE BIRD
Blue bird Built in 1906 by
Crossfieds of
Arnside (Cumbria) she fished out of Lytham and Morecambe Bay most of her life and was
restored by Syd Mc Mullen over a long period of years, She is 34ft and a very fast
boat.
CACHALOT
The only Nobby built by the Limit Motor Boat Co Barrow in Furness Cumbria,
The builders were John Ingram and Fred Rollinson, father of Alex Rollinson, a
retired Liverpool river pilot. She was built originally for Jack Mount of Morecambe
and launched in 1930, he had her only four years, before selling her to Bill Higgins
of Heswell in 1934. Cachalot was handed down through the family until sold to Andy Williams
in 1996. A seven year rebuild followed and she now proves to be a fast sailer.

Another Crossfield of Arnside
boat built in 1908, She fished in Morecambe Bay but ended up fishing in the Isle of
Man, she is one of the smaller Nobbies at 26ft she has won the Liverpool Nobby race
3 times, under the ownership of our late, well loved and respected President Harry
Bloomfield.
ELEANORA
Built by
Armours Fleetwood,
she is 38ft, when she was a fishing boat her crew was just one man
and a boy, she fished in the Liverpool Bay, she was restored in the 1980's by then
owner Tommy Dalton and is now owned By Billy Thompson who has just finished restoring
her again.

ELIZABETH
Elizabeth was built by Crossfields in 1917, she is built of pitch pine on oak frames and has an internal cast iron keel, she is 33ft 7.5 inches long she was originally named 'Carla Rosa' and then 'Christine' she was fished in Mary Port by her owner Fred Gate up until 1994 and lay up in Mary Port harbour until her current owner Paul Cracknell of West
Kirby, Wirral bought her and started repairs making her ready to sail over the next couple of years, she has had new deck planks, side planks and a new cabin, gaff boom and bowsprit, she now sails in West Kirby, she was renamed 'Elizabeth' after Mr Cracknells daughter.
EMMA
Built in 1935 by Crossfields Conway for
Deep sea
Water Fishing at the Liverpool Bar, Emma fished in the Mersey Bay for 30 years, Was owned
by Jack Spriggs and his son, now owned by M Griffiths.

EMPRESS MT 73
Built in 1928 At Arnside she is 34ft long, she lay up at Maryport for many years after being hit by a trawler with the
tide flowing in and out of her, Empress had fished for many years in Morecambe Bay,
in 1987 Mike Griffiths and Dr Dick Calvert bought her and spent three years building
her up she is a past winner of the Liverpool Nobby race. Now owned by S Jones of
Hoylake, Wirral.

ETHEL
Ethel was built in 1937 by Crossfields Conway,
she was one of the later Nobbies and was built with an engine, she is 30 ft long, 9ft
6 beam, Ethel was built for the Peters brothers of Parkgate and fished and shrimped
for most of her life on the River Dee up until 1980, she was bought in 1986 by Don
Griffiths and was completely restored over a period of 6 years and has been a regular
entree in to the Nobby Races, she is now moored in Conway less that 200 yards from
where she was originally built in 1937.

Fleetwood Rose
Fleetwood rose was built in 1942 at Crosfields of Barrow, she is owned by Mr Eddie Rawlinson ,

GEORGE PILKINGTON
The George Pilkington, is owned by our president Roger Bucknall, she is the last known surviving Southport
Nobby, The Southport nobbies tended to be 42 ft and over because of the exposed coast
, she was fished normally by one man and a boy, This vessel was built by the Wright
Brothers of Marshside in the open, she fished Southport, Hoylake and North Wales and
she lay derelict for years in the Weir in Warrington, until Fred Turner bought her
and carefully rebuilt her over 4 years.

HANNAH
HAMBLETON HH
Built at Crossfields
of Arnside in 1936 she was launched on Novemer 26th and then sailed Runcorn where
she fished for 30 years, she fished Morecambe Bay and Hoylake where she broke adrift
in a gale and was severley damaged, she was rebuilt by Bob Sheredley in Birkenhead
which took a period of three years, whe was then bought by Jim and Jayne Roddick who
have entered her in to the Liverpool and Conway Races and she has raced to the Isle
of Man and competed in the traditional boat festval in Brest, France wher she beat
boats of a much bigger size.

HEARTS OF OAK
34ft
built in 1912 on Angleseys pier Ulverston,Cumbria by Dan Mc Lester who was the last
boat builders yard apprentice at the famous schooner builders yard Whites and
Barrow, she was built of all oak left over when Whites ship builders closed hence its
name Hearts of Oak, she worked as a pilot boat for many years for Ulverston iron
works she was then left to rot in a creek, she was rebuilt locally and during world
war
2 "Barbara" as she was then known was used as a pilot boat, fishing boat and air sea
rescue,
during this time she was able to save the lives of several airmen who were forced to
ditch there aircraft in the Duddon estury. Barbara's name was reverted back to Hearts of Oak
and went back to fishing Maryport in 1964. She is now owned by Mrs J Snell of Cumbria.

Was bought by Mike Griffiths Jnr, he had Jim Weir doing her up for a long time.
HELEN 3
Helen 111 is 34ft the last Nobby
built at Crossfields of Arnside in 1938 for the Stonall family of New Brighton, she was then
sold to the Evans family of Heswall who fished her on the Dee, she then went to the
Isle of Skye where she fished for years eventually coming back home to the Dee. Helen 111
is now owned by Graham Jones and is moored in Liverpool.

JAUNITA
Built by Crossfields of Arnside in 1912 one of 6 small Nobbies built specially for the Barrow Pilots who used them for fishing in the weekday and racing at the weekends, a very fast boat, there are only two of the six built remaining, the other being Mimi, the Jaunita fished out of Barrow until bought by Jim Wier who brought her to Merseyside. Jaunita is now owned by Tony Kearney.
JOSEPHINE
28ft built in Arnside by Crossfields
was used before the war as the knot end ferry to carry passengers accross the River
Wyre, she fished Morcambe Bay and the Dee Estuary with Laddie Evans as skipper owner
up until the late 1970s. Now owned by Kevin Grimes of Liverpool, who is undertaking the huge task
of doing her up, we will be starting a diary following his progress.

LASSIE OF CHESTER
42ft Lassie is another Crossfield
of Conway
in 1938 one of the last Nobbies built in the yard before the war broke out, built for
Alan Kitchen who fished the Dee Esturay, she had an extra top plank fitted so she
could fish the Liverpool Mersey bar, she then fished out of Fleetwood until 1993
and had been under rebuild until the 1990's moored in the Menia Straights by then
owner boat builder Scott Metcalf, she is now owned by N R Bradleu pf Gwynedd.

LUCY
Owned by R W Rayner of Poulton-le-Fylde,
she is currently on the hard, waiting to get a bit of maintenance done, she is getting her cockpit widened, repairs to some deck patches, and her deck fittings are getting improoved, she is also getting some work done on the interior, most notably insulating.

LUCY ANNE
Owned by M Adams of Liverpool, formally owned
by David Wilson, who bought her of Jim Wier and Joe Mitchell, it was in very bad
condition when it was bought by Jim and Joe in Hoylake, she had her cast keel taken out and new
keel bolts fitted, and she had a false rounded stern fitted.

MAY LA12
May was built
by Crossfields of Hoylake, one
of only three boats built at Hoylake and the only one remaining today, built in 1920
for the Dee Estuary for shrimping and fishing, she was called May after May Crossfield
one of the boat builders family, she lay for years sunk in the Liverpool docks after
being hit during the blitz during world war 2, she was bought by David Wilson and
completely and professionally rebuilt in 1986-87, she is a past winner of the
Liverpool Nobby Race and is now owned by Barry Sharrat, she is built of pitch
pine and oak and is 32ft long
MIMI
Owned by Alan Hughes the present owner
for over
25 years one of only two small Nobbies built for the Barrow pilots built by Crossfields
of Arnside in 1912, she has had 1 and 1/2 foot sawn off the stern because of rot,
she
fished Morcambe Bar area all her working life for shrimps and fish, she was moored at
Skipool Creek on the River Wyre, Fleetwood. Mimi was originally called Lancashire
Rose but had a name change by a previous owner.

MYSTERY 11
One of the biggest Nobbies on the
fleet built in 1911 by Armours of Fleetwood for the Hughes family of Egremont, she
fished out of the Mersey from New Brighton untill the begining of the war and then
went to Conway, fishing until the 1960s. she is a fine powerful boat and was runner up in
the 1990 Liverpool Nobby race, she put on a great performance with borrowed sails!!. She is owned by N G Brown of Liverpool.

NAIAD PL57
Naiad was built
in 1894 by Gibsons of Fleetwood and originally fished at Peel in the Isle of Man,
she
was brought back to condition by her then owner Rodney Swainbank and family who spent
two years doing her up, she was runner up in the Liverpool nobby race in 1989 and
the winner in 1990 and was skippered by
John
Neary. Naiad is now owned by Alan Jones who has taken her up to skipple creek to do some more work on her.

NANNETTE
Nannette is 26 foot LOD. Moored at Fleetwood, Her her original owner W Palin reputedly sailed her to Norway with Arthur Ransome. In the late 1930's she was sold to a dentist who lived in St Mawes and sailed her to his practice in Falmouth on a daily basis. Later she was sailed by a lady from the Midlands and kept at St Just in Roseland and she can be seen in postcards moored outside the famous church. She stayed in the Falmouth area until the 1990's when she was discovered by the original owner's grandson and returned to Fleetwood.
Since purchasing Nanette in 1999 the Stuart Turner engine has been replaced with a Lombardini 17 HP Diesel and she has a new set of sails by Steve Goacher and has cruised to the Isle of Man, North Wales and Liverpool and been successful in several nobby races.

PEGGY
36ft, built at Crossfields of Arnside in 1912,
Owned by Philip and Rose Marie Newman,she is kept in Ispwich, she is regulary sailed on the Normandy coast the 1st year
that the Newmans had her they went via seeing the fleet review at Portsmouth and got as far as Guernsy, she was the
winner of the 1992 Liverpool Nobby Race, and is currently in tip top condition.

ROSE
Rose is a 32 ft Nobby built in 1937 by
Crossfields,
bought as a derelict hull in the beach at Maryport in 1987 for a small sum of money,
Tony and Franner Kearney spent 6 years rebuilding her in to her present condition, she
spent most of her fishing years in Morecambe Bay and Maryport and Fleetwood, she is
unusual in having an inside iron keelson so as to shrimp shallower water. She is now
owned by
Chris Kerfoot.

SNOW DROP
Built in 1898
at
Crossfields of Arnside
one of the oldest boats in the fleet she fished I.O.M. and Morcambe Bay for 60 years
and was
finally bought by the Lamb brothers, John and Peter.

SPEEDWELL
Owned by Dereck Bayley, who bought her of Chris Tulloch in May this year, she has been stood in the corner of the marina for over 12 years, at the moment she’s been stripped out and sat on a steel frame in preparation for moving her to another yard, since this pic was taken Dereck has pulled the stem to bits and it looks as though stem forefoot and deadwood will all have to be renewed, sourcing oak for this at the moment after which things should move on apace.
Prior to her being at Penryn Dock we have no information on this vessel other than a bill
of sale dated 10th July 1963, transferring ownership from a Mr D Leigh, a joiner and
boatbuilder who lived at 6 Back Avondale Road, Morecambe, to a Mr C Mitchell
of 101 Autoban Road Birmingham
We beleive this vessel may have been built by Crossfields at Conwy, the vessel has
a cast iron keel as ballast, which apperentely was a feature of Conwy built boats,
and possibly dates from about 1905, although other's suggest she may have been built
as late as 1925.
She is now owned by Matt Reid who would love to know if any one knows her old fishing
number, year of build,where whe was built or an information about her, if you can help
please contact us and we will pass on the information to Matt.

SPRAY
32ft
built in 1908 by Crossfields of Arnside, she fished the Morcambe bay until the early
1960s, then she fished the River Dee by the Evans family of Heswall she then returned
to Maryport for many years when she was then bought by present owner Tom Middlebrook
in 1989 who had her completely rebuilt over a period of three years, whe is a regular
competitor in the Liverpool and Conway Nobby races
THISTLE
Thistle is 27ft long with a draught of 3ft.She was bought from Bob Angel
in July 2003 after he had spent about five years restoring this vessel after he
found her in a bad state in the trees at Penryn dock, North Wales. VENTURE
Venture is 28ft and was fished by Henry
Evans, who comes from a well known fishing family who have fished for generations
from Lower Heswall. Now owned by R Coles of Hants

WELSH GIRL
This is the smallest boat 20ft built in 1926 by Crossfields of Conway, originally
built jigger rigged for Jack Lewis a Heswall Fisherman, she has fished mainly the
Dee and a few years at Conway she was sunk and damaged in a gale at Thustaston in
1988 and then Jeff Andrews repaired her and she has been racing constantly since 1990.

What o was built by
Williams and Parkinson in 1924, she is 33 ft long. she is an
unusual nobby with a separate engine room, she is currently
in Conwy.

Built again by Crossfields Arnside

the Mersey and fished the Mersey Esturary after the war, she was bought by Jim Weir
in 1992 from the River Douglas where she had lain for many years neglected, Jim has
worked
on her for years getting her in to tip top condition.
